What if a Bratz doll was a playlist?

Hi everyone! I have been itching for spring recently and after experiencing the beautiful 60 degree day with extra hours of sunlight this week (Thanks, Daylight Saving Time!) I’m ready more than ever to embrace the pastel colors, the lighter jackets and windows down while I drive. And with that comes a playlist perfect for spring.

I present to you Bratz! This has nothing to do with Charli XCX’s brat, although, I think Charli would dub this playlist brat. (This playlists is a little more coquette than brat. Maybe a perfect blend of Charli XCX and Sabrina Carptenter.)

Bratz is a playlist that embodies the energy of a Bratz doll. This playlist embraces a fun, lighthearted, childish spirit with a twist of spice (maybe even sour, like a Sour Patch Kid), similar to that of children’s doll with the same name. These dolls are known for their confident, fashion-forward personalities and their exagerated, unrealistic features (ie their heads are larger than the rest of their bodies, and their feet are nubs that can clip onto other shoes).

They were created in 2001 when the digtal age was taking our world by storm. It was a time for flip phones, T9, AIM away messages, and Ipods.

So what does a Bratz doll sound like?

To me, the recipe is this: they defintely have a little choatic hyperpop to them (thanks to the digital advancements of the time and the high energy of the dolls themselves); a few millenial hits thrown in there to bring out the childhood nostalgia; some hip-hop and RnB (Bratz are a diverse group afterall); and fianlly, songs that focus on girl power, female friendships and an overall theme of uplifting those around you.
