Have Yourself A Big Band Christmas Treee

A jazzy Christmas playlist with a modern twist

This week I’m starting a three part series of Christmas playlists each one for a different mood or occasion. The first: “Have Yourself a Big Band Christmas.”

This is a modern take on a traditional, jazzy-inspired holiday playlist. It features a mixture of modern singers that have a vintage sound like Samara Joy and Laufey with a sprinkle of the OGs mixed in (think Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington).

“Big Band” gets its name from the Jazz Age and consists of at least 10 musicians where brass instruments (think saxophones, trumpets, trombones) are predominatley featured. Not all of the songs on this playlist fit into this mold, but I do think they all encapsulate the jazzy Christmas vibe.

Samara Joy and Laufey were the too main inspirations for this playlist. Their voices transport me to the sounds of yesteryears and their holiday albums feel like sitting next to a cozy fire while the snow falls softly outside.

This playlist feels like a classic movie soundtrack. It will make you feel like a Hollywood starlet in a black and white movie. It’s perfect for a holiday dinner party or drinking Christmas cocktails while you decorate the tree.
